- Wise Payments Limited is an FCA-authorised electronic money institution under the Electronic Money Regulations 2011, with permission to issue e-money and provide payment services. It is not a bank and holds no UK banking licence; the Wise account is not a bank account. Ordinary e-money and payment services are not covered by FSCS deposit protection — customer funds are safeguarded (kept separate from the firm's own money or covered by insurance/comparable guarantee), which may involve an insolvency process if the firm fails.
